Dr. M. S. Swaminathan Research Grant for New Findings in Agriculture

AGRI HACKATHON 2026

(A Government of Tamil Nadu Initiative)

“Dr. M. S. Swaminathan Research Grant for New Findings in Agriculture” is a proactive initiative of the Government of Tamil Nadu for promoting innovations in agriculture for a resilient and sustainable farming.

The present-day agriculture is largely constrained due to evolving scenarios on a regional, national, and global perspective. Challenges emanate from the climate changing situations, urbanization and decreasing area under cultivable lands, depleting ground water table, soil and water pollution, production constraints in problem soils, rising input costs, shortage of skilled and unskilled manpower, demand for functional and nutritional food, want of labor-saving farm implements and processing technologies, new pest and disease surges, fluctuating prices of agricultural produces, inadequate marketing logistics, etc. The need of the hour is to develop innovative technological solutions for the most pressing problems the farming ecosystem faces in day-to-day agriculture.

The ‘Agri Hackathon 2026' entitled ‘TN Agri Dr. M. S. Swaminathan Innovation Grand Challenge 2026’ looks forward to innovative solutions for the problem statements enlisted in six disciplines crop improvement and biotechnology, crop and natural resource management, crop protection, agricultural engineering, horticulture and agricultural marketing in a very concerted manner as team which include PG and PhD students of agriculture, science and engineering along with a mentor in a well-defined time frame. The selected teams will be incubated for a maximum of 12 months with funding support paving the way for the development of novel products/implements/processes benefitting the farming community, besides leading to startup incorporation.
